Quicken Loans Helps Out at Gleaners Food Bank

Quicken Loans Helps Out at Gleaners Food Bankby Victoria Araj

On Saturday, several Quicken Loans team members made their way to the Gleaners Food Bank in Taylor.  Carrie Cabrera brought her son and Jennifer Jones brought her uncle to help and be honorary team members for a day! When we arrived, we were excited to see that there were volunteers from other organizations as well as a local family that visits on occasion to help whenever they can.

We broke up in groups and sorted bins of food and placed them in boxes according to date. Our Quicken Loans team decided to form an assembly-line process which the other groups emulated-- this allowed us to really make a difference in the time we were there.  Some of the other groups had young children with them and they hopped into the bins to hand us the food!

After the items were sorted and packaged, we made our way to the other end of the facility where we unpacked boxes that already contained products and sorted them by type.  Together, we sorted a couple thousand pounds of food and we were so efficient that the site leader had to tell us to take a break in order to let the new arrivals have a chance to help!

Our site leader took a group photo of us and said how happy he was to have such a large age range all working together! The food we sorted will be distributed to local families and some will remain at their own “market” which is located inside the Gleaners facility.  “It was nice to see different groups, especially kids, take a part in volunteering for the community and they were very helpful because we all got a good workout!” said Laura Facione.

It truly was a team effort and everyone commented that they would like to volunteer at this location again because of our positive experience. Rajeev Lahoty said, “It is so easy to forget about humanity while we battle with our daily survival in this competitive world. But we should remember that it doesn't cost anything to give time, expertise, love or even a smile. I am addicted to GIVING now.”
