Quicken Loans and In-House Realty volunteers serve a loving spoonful at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen

Saturday, November 14 was not only a beautiful Autumn day, but was also the perfect opportunity to help those in need at the Capuchin Soup Kitchen in Detroit. Sixteen volunteers came out from In-House Realty, the Focus team and Mortgage Operations. Our enthusiastic volunteers helped to serve lunch to grateful families.
Capuchin serves four meals to 2500 people per day, six days per week between its two soup kitchens in Detroit. They provide nourishment and hope to all those in need. There are no requirements, and no questions asked to receive a meal. Capuchin strives for a dignified, respectful experience for all those they serve. In addition to feeding the hungry, Capuchin also offers programs for job preparation, tutoring and mentoring, long term rehabilitation care from drugs and alcohol, and children’s art and therapy programs.
All of the volunteers were greeted with many smiles and grateful faces. When asked what the afternoon meant to her, Stefanie Sherman of In-House Realty said, “I found the experience to be very humbling. We never know where our paths in life will take us. I enjoy participating and helping in any way with our volunteer opportunities. I look forward to lending a hand with future volunteer events.” Many volunteers brought family members to the event, including Adrian Brown, also of In-House Realty. “It’s always a rewarding experience for me and my daughters. Muhammad Ali once stated, “service to others is the rent you pay for your room here on earth,” and I most certainly concur,” Brown added.
We appreciate the generosity of our volunteers, and look forward to returning to the Capuchin Soup Kitchen.
